Serial No. 5455. Standard 2nd model manufactured in 1876 and chambered in .45 S&W with 7” barrel. It has matching numbers on butt and cylinders, right grip panel is numbered to the gun and left has a crack repair, "U.S." on butt and other inspector marks such as EP under barrel lug. The walnut grips have the inspector cartouches deeply stamped on both sides along with the 1876 date on left grip. Action locks up like new. Bore is near mint. Nice case colors evident on both hammer and trigger guard. Entire metal surface is clean and smooth and retains generous amounts of original blue with some later added wipe on blue mixed in. Factory stamps are perfect and deep. Less than 6000 of these second models were manufactured for the cavalry and most saw hard use and many were cut down later and used by Wells Fargo so the amount of clean surviving second models is quite low and this one is a clean example.
S&W 2ND MODEL SCHOFIELD REVOLVER.
