Serial No. 10028. Offered is a lovely pre-war Mannlicher that was retailed by Von Lengerke & Detmold, Inc. New York and is also stamped on barrel. Features include the butter knife bolt handle, the matted receiver, folding rear sight, ramp front sight, double set triggers, finely checkered walnut stock and a serrated steel butt plate with trap door. Has original sling swivels. The barrel and frame retain approx. 95% original factory blue finish with some minor high edge wear. The floor plate and trigger guard have approx.50% original blue. The stock has had a light coat of varnish reapplied. Does not appear to have been re-finished. Action and double set triggers work perfectly. Bore is strong but frosted. Legendary American writer Ernest Hemingway frequently used this rifle and mentions it in some of his writings, most notably "The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber". There was only one chambering for the Model 1908 and that was the famous 8x56mm cartridge.
