Wells Fargo. This revolver started life as a standard military issue S&W Schofield top break chambered for the 45 S&W Schofield round. These were wholesaled off as surplus, and many were purchased by the Wells Fargo express co. At which time the barrels were cut down to a more manageable 5", and they were company stamped on the frame and barrel. This example as W.F & Co Ex on the right side of the frame. Also has WF & Co. Ex along with the unit no. 3810 stamped on the right side of the barrel. Overall metal is a clean patina, that has some blue wiped on it at one time. Some corrosion on the cylinder. Grips are excellent, butt is stamped 45 S&W in two spots. Bore is very good, lock up is tight. Comes in an old wooden box with an original full box of Remington Schofield ammo. 5000-8000CORRECTION: This example looks correct with irregular stamps, proper fonts, uneven #s, soft edges, wear over stamps etc. It is not cleaned under stamps.
