Serial No. 73243. Approximately 30,791 Springfield Armory Model 1911s were manufactured for the United States Army in 1914 and 1915. The serial numbers fall into the first 1,000 pistols manufactured. The frame has the Springfield Ordinance bomb stamped on the left side. The slide has Springfield Armory with patents and bomb on the left side of slide. It is identical to the Colt 1911, chambered to the .45 ACP. Small checkered parts, diamond checkered walnut grips, smooth long trigger, U notch rear sight with small blade front, short wide spur checkered hammer, flat mainspring housing. Action fine. Strong clean bore. Vintage pin magazine (no lanyard loop). Gun is completely devoid of any original factory finish. Soft edges. Strong factory stamps. Some pitting on slide. Rare example of World War I 1911.
