9" long Colt revolver is working. Revolver with leather case includes bullet maker and picture of Tantum. Serial #84321 on five parts of the revolver. Fired by Major William H. Tantum. Small chip on gun handle. Wonderful inscribed etching of Stagecoach horses and men shooting. Glass covered display case. 28" x 22" photograph is attributed to Matthew Brady and is in original frame and glass. Shows several Union Officers including Major William F. Tantum from the Army of the Potomac, one African-American, one mad holding a rifle, three officers and possibly one civilian. Photograph was taken during war in the 1860s as Major William F. Tantum fought for the Army of the Potomac. Matthew Brady is thought to be the only photographer commissioned by President Lincoln to photograph officers of the Army of the Potomac. Photograph has been re-matted.Major William H. Mustered in September 27, 1864: 38th Regiment, New Jersey to serve one year.June 30, 1865: 38th Regiment mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Department.July 11, 1892: Dies in Trenton, New Jersey.
