Presentation sword with no makers mark. Etch blade artillery motif, shark skin wire wrapped handle, carved brass hilt, brass scabbard with brass overlays, eagle motif. Inscribed as follows: “Presented to Capt. John Kavanagh by the members of the Carroll Guard Company E 9th Reg. N.Y.S.M. I.V. New York, June 6th 1851”. Blade is patina but not sharpened, scabbard has several dents.
