Serial No. 6792. Nice early western used Merwin & Hulbert 44-40 early open top revolver. This fine example is factory engraved and has the Mexican Eagle on left panel. The barrel has been period altered to a more manageable 4-7/8”. It is a single action with painted wood grips and original lanyard ring. Engraving is a combination of the M&H punch dot style with some New York style scroll work. Wood grips were painted at one time. Underside barrel release is period homemade replacement. Front sight was period reset. Indexes fine and totally working condition but cylinder is a bit free. There are traces of original nickel finish but basically gun metal gray. Given the Mexican Eagle and use with period alterations, this is most likely a Texas Mexico border gun used in the wild and woolly towns along the Rio Grande in the 1870-80’s. Very colorful and handsome Wild West handgun that has been there.
FACTORY ENGRAVED MERWIN & HULBERT 44 REVOLVER.
