This is a beautiful little Civil War inscribed Smith & Wesson Model #1, 2nd Issue 22 caliber rimfire spur trigger 7-shot revolver in it’s original gutta percha case. It is serial number 20888. Inscribed on the grip strap as follows; J.N.Tracy New Britain Ct 1st Reg. A copy of muster in papers is included. Tracy was mustered in on April 23, 1861 in New Haven and was promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 1861. Accompanying gun is a double tin type leatherette photo case with two pictures of Tracy in uniform. The Gutta Percha case has the Flag and Cannon motif on lid and is in excellent condition with no cracks but few minor chips on base with original left lining and bullet block. The gun itself remains in excellent condition with about 80% of the original silver plating remaining on frame. The 3 - ¼” octagon barrel retains most of an ancient re- blue finish starting to plum. The varnished rosewood grips are fine. Of course, it is a tip up breech and is not cracked or repaired. Indexes and locks up tight. The cylinder has also been re-blued and markings are light with some minor pitting under the finish.
