Serial No. 4445. Manufactured by the Cosmopolitan Arms Co. 1859 to 1862. Standard features include .52 caliber, percussion, breach-loader, single shot falling block, 19" barrel, iron mountings, blue finish, walnut stock, with sling ring on left side of frame. This is considered the contract type with the serpentine lever. 1140 of these were contracted to the Illinois Calvary. Most of these saw heavy use during the Civil War throughout Arkansas and Mississippi. All metal is a dark brown patina with salt and pepper pitting throughout. Excellent stock with perfect cartouche on left side. Strong rifled bore (very clean). Perfect action.UPDATE: THIS IS A GWYN & CAMPBELL AND NOT A COSMPOLITAN. 1863-1864. PRODUCTION APPROXIMATELY 8,200.
