These were manufactured by the Starr Arms Co. of Yonkers, New York from 1862 to 1865. It is a .54 caliber breech loader percussion single shot with a 21" round barrel, a single brass band, brass buttplate, blued iron parts, case hardened lock and frame, walnut stocks, and sling ring on left side. The barrel is a beautiful smooth brown patina. Frame retains flashes of color, basically brown patina. Walnut stocks are excellent with no cracks. Perfect working order. Strong clean bore. These rifles were heavily used, most notably by the Union Cavalry of the 1st Arkansas, 5th Kansas, 11th Missouri, and the 24th New York. This example remains in extremely clean, all original condition. Far above average handsome and scarce Civil War carbine. The stock is not in excellent condition, there is a crack running through the right side that appears to have been repaired at some point. There is also some repair work to the back edge of the foregrip against the receiver.
