Originally purchased in Philadelphia, this doll has been in the original Quaker family until the present, now being sold. Her name is “Tabitha.” Bisque swivel head lady incised “I” made by Bru on bisque shoulder plate (break and re-glue runs from rim to right eye corner and across nose and from left eye corner to rim, hairline from left eye corner to chin, 2 hairlines from nose break to chin), distinctive smiling face with multistroked eyebrows, almond eye cuts, threaded blue paperweight eyes, delicately painted upper and lower lashes, black eyeliner, closed smiling mouth with upturned corners, lip shading strokes, shaded chin, pierced ears with pearl earrings, antique brown human hair wig with coiled side braids; shapely twill cloth body with flat stitched joints (arm fabric replaced but not recently, soil and wear on legs and feet) with composition Kintzbach-type hands appears original though not the kid body usually found on French lady dolls; wearing original corset, drawers and chemise. Original wardrobe consisting of 2-piece red plaid wool gown (some moth holes, black lace deteriorating), 2-piece navy wool gown with lovely back interest on skirt, gray plaid wool coat, brown wool 3-piece outfit with yellow trim including cape, brown cotton stripes blouse, blue cotton print day dress, elaborate rose wool Worth-style gown with lace and satin and pleated trim with train (moth holes, soil, lovely but needs conservation), whitework cotton blouse (staining), 2-piece white cotton summer gown with lace trim; crocheted sweater, shawl, vest, scarf (some deterioration), gray fur stole, 12 pieces of white undergarments and nightgowns (need laundering, several too large for her), apron; 3 hats, broken fan, comb, 2 pair shoes (wear, too large for her), 2 odd shoes, stockings, leather valise (needs repair), wood trunk (needs repair), 3 drawer chest (wear, knob replaced), 5 pieces of bedding. A wonderful ensemble, played with by successive members of this family, seldom do these family heirlooms come to the market, provenance included. A treasure!
