Standard Whitney features 33" round barrel, two barrel bands, brown finish, brass mountings and patchbox, "U.S." on buttplate. Lock it marked "E. Whitney U.S." and "New Haven 1848". Barrel is stamped "U.S. SK VP". Has the inspector stamp on right side of walnut stock. This Whitney has the added bayonet lug on side of barrel stamped 416. It is a standard percussion with brass tip steel ramrod. The bayonet lug was obviously cut in and added. Steel metal surfaces are a blue-brown smooth clean patina. The brass has never been cleaned. Patchbox has a 12 stamped on it. There is some light pitting around nipple. Walnut stocks are near mint with no cracks. Dirty bore needs a good cleaning. Comes with a brass handled saber bayonet stamped 186 and 708.
