The set begins with a Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon, manufactured in 1848. Has all matching numbers except wedge. Features a 4" octagon barrel, five-shot, .31 caliber percussion with a squareback trigger guard, and Colt's patent on left side of frame. Metal is basically a brown patina. Barrel markings no longer readable, nor is there any visible cylinder scene. Very good original grips. Perfect action. Very good bore. In the gun compartment rests an original Colt bullet mold, Colt small eagle flask, a nipple wrench, Eley cap tin, and cleaning rod. The other compartments in this desk set include two original ink wells, a pearl handled gold tipped fountain pen, keys, ivory handled straight razor, a "His & Her" daguerreotype in case, five original pieces of fractional currency, four pre-Civil War stamps, an 1820s half dollar, an 1855 half dollar, an 1838 large cent, an 1865 two cent piece, an 1864 two cent piece, an 1856 half dime, an 1861 half dime, an 1853 three cent piece, an 1865 three cent piece, an 1859 Indian penny, an 1863 Indian penny, and five Civil War tokens. The other side of the desk set contains a pair of Civil War era shooting glasses, a small metal pocket mirror, a non working pocketwatch with porcelain face, a Civil War era brass compass, an 1862 book of Psalms, a deck of playing card with no indice, an 1864 dated check from Ilion, New York, a 100 dollar note from the Plantation bank of New York, an 1864 Grand Trunk Railway receipt, two 1865 State of Vermont general order No. 9, a general order No. 8 enrollment of the militia 1865 book, an 1864 Ordinance office or department order form (not filled out), 1860s officers issuing property issue form (not filled out), nine patriotic unused Civil War mailing envelopes, a map of Alabama, an 1863 American Express receipt, eight CDVs of various women (two with stamps), three CDVs (one of General Phil Sheridan and two of General B. McClellan), an unmarked folding bowie knife with 8" blade and stag handle, and a small clay pipe. This entire outfit dates to the Civil War or earlier and is an incredible find worthy of a museum display.
