This rifle was manufactured in 1893. It is a Winchester Model 1885 Lo-wall chambered for the .32-40 Winchester centerfire cartridge. The barrel is 30", full octagon, and manufactured without sight slots. The top of the barrel is stamped "Stevens-Pope Mfg. by the J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. Chickapee Falls, Massachusetts, U.S.A.". It is a deluxe gun featuring three X walnut stock, pistol grip, with the ebony insets on both fore arm and pistol grip. The butt stock is in near mint condition with no cracks or chips, all the original varnish, sharp checkering, and incredible grain. It has a German nickel-plated Swiss buttplate. The barrel retains 95% of the original factory blue finish. The frame retains fully 85% of the brilliant Winchester case colors. Mounted on the barrel block is a vintage John W. Sidle, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 24" tube scope serial No. 1850 that retains most of its original factory blue. The mounts are a set of early Winchester A5 grasshopper style. Bore is mint. Action is perfect. Stunning early Winchester Stevens Pope deluxe single shot rifle. According to the factory letter the stocks and buttplate match specification and it was shipped on August 11, 1894 (does not state where shipped). It was then customized by Stevens Pope by changing the 28" No. 2 half octagon barrel that was chambered for .25-20 into its current configuration. Once the forearm is removed the bottom barrel flat is stamped 25 141 25.
