Offered is a fine original double cased set of H.W. Mortimer matching duelers in the original case with all accessories. Mortimer, located on Fleet Street in London, is noted amongst collectors for the fine quality of his handguns, and this cased set is no exception. These pistols are identical in configuration as follows: 9-1/4" flared Damascus octagon barrels, percussion ignition, bores measure .60, smooth bores with no rifling, original cleaning rods, case colored actions are marked H.W. Mortimer, hammer is engraved and is also case colored, both have safeties, carved and checkered bag style handles, trigger guard has the brass plaque, the triggers are adjustable, trigger guard plate is engraved, and original cleaning rods have ebony tips. Barrels are browned. Bores are near mint. Condition of both guns are nearly identical and show literally no signs of having ever been used or fired, with perfect case colors, beautiful stocks with no cracks or chips. Gold band at breach. Comes with an original dealer label box with assorted tools and an original leather covered flask. A beautiful top of the line mid 19th century set of London duelers that would be hard to be improved upon both in quality and condition. This is the type of set that would have been used to settle arguments in the genteel Southern era aristocracy prior to the war between the states. Exterior box does show wear.
