Weiss operated his knifeworks in London beginning in the 1830's. An almost identical knife can be seen on page 57, item 81 in the book "A Sure Defense" by Ken Burton. This is a standard clip point bowie with a 9-7/8" blade that measures 15-1/2" overall. It features nickel/German silver quillion and pommel. Maker stamped on the ricasso. Has wrap-around pearl scales with no visible bolsters. Blade shows some light sharpening but still has a perfect point. there is some moderate corrosion about the blade. No sheath accompanies this fine early bowie.
