This is an interesting high wall with many deluxe features and condition, but is a bit of a conundrum. Features include a 30" part octagon barrel, chambered for the .32-40 cartridge and retains 95% or better original factory blue. It has a Winchester globe front sight and two leaf folding rear sight. Stocks are deluxe fire-grain walnut, checkered, pistol grip, ebony inlay on both fore end and grip, nickel Swiss buttplate, and rollover cheek piece. The receiver retains approximately 50% bright original case colors. It is equipped with a long range tang rear sight. Bottom of barrel is marked "No. 3". Strong clean bore and perfect action. We can find no serial number on this gun, not on lower tang where it should be, not inside. In taking off the buttstock we found No. 684, in doing so we can see that there is a crack running through the pistol grip that has been repaired. Without a serial number we cannot check the configuration. The barrel has perfect Winchester marks and the patent date is on the lower tang. It is an extremely handsome high condition rifle as it sits, and a little expert stock repair would be beneficial. It has a set trigger. There are no PW stamps on gun which indicates a pre-1905 date of manufacture. It is our guess that the lower tang was replaced or the gun was either restocked or custom. Everything is contemporary to gun. The repaired crack is solid. This would make a handsome shooting rifle.
