Merrimack Arms of Newberry Port, Massachusetts manufactured the Ballard from 1867 to 1869. A total of 2,200 rifles were produced. This sporting rifle features a 24" full octagon barrel and is chambered for the .38 rimfire cartridge. Has matching serial numbers. Front sight is a folding globe, and rear has a folding rear sporting sight and a tang long range sight dovetailed in receiver. Barrel retains approximately 90% original blue with some freckling and some minor pitting on top flat. The frame retains approximately 40-50% original case colors, some bright. Original walnut varnished stocks are excellent with almost all of the original varnish and just one minor 3/4" tight hairline crack at wrist. Case colors on buttplate have darkened. Beautiful bore and perfect action. Rarely do you see these scarce sporting rifles in such fine condition.
