Offered is an exquisite one of a kind custom rifle/shotgun cased set. This example was manufactured in the mid-19th century by noted Toronto gunsmith W.G. Rawbone. Set was manufactured in the mid-19th century, uses the percussion system, and features a 12 bore shotgun barrel and a .44 caliber rifle barrel. The beautiful half stock features highly figured piano finish stock with an engraved trapdoor on right side. Piece of paper inside is dated November 27th, 1892 and gives loading information. Has a finely engraved and high polish blue trigger guard that retains 40% of the original finish. The engraved teardrop side lock plate is finely engraved and stamped "W.G. Rawbone". The screws and hammer are also engraved. Wrist and fore stock are finely checkered. Escutcheon is engraved. Has an ebony fore end tip. Shotgun barrel measures 35", is turned from octagon to round, has a Damascus brown finish, is proofed on the other side, top of flat is stamped "W.G. Rawbone Toronto", breach is engraved, original nipple, with a strong clean bore, and original brass tipped cleaning rod. The rifle barrel measures 32", metal is basically a smooth blue-brown patina, has a long range folding sight, engraved at the breech, and is also stamped "W.G. Rawbone Toronto" with a strong rifled bore with some minor abrasions. It too has the original brass tipped ramrod. The included case is lined in purple velvet and comes with a three-piece rifle cleaning rod, three-piece shotgun cleaning rod, a shotgun charger flask, a brass bullet mold stamped "W.G. Rawbone", several cleaning jags, glass oil bottle with a nickel cap stamped "C&JW. Hawksle, and a barrel wrench stamped "15". The case is walnut with solid brass accessories and has a trade label inside the lid. A wonderful early custom gunsmith cased set.
