Standard fifth model saddle ring carbine popular during the Civil war and only manufactured in 1862. Standard features include a 21" round barrel, single shot, .54 caliber percussion breech loader, case colored frame, walnut stock and fore end, sling swivel in butt. Gun has matching serial numbers. Barrel has turned a dark blue-brown patina with freckling. Case colors have darkened. Traces of fire blue on lever. Cartouche is no longer visible. Original nipple. Stocks are very good with no cracks or chips but several war dents. Fine action and strong clean bore with light frosting. Fine example of a war veteran. Most of these carbines manufactured early in the war saw hard use, but this is a far better than average example.
