This early Government Model 1911 is a standard commercially sold pistol. Features a 5" barrel, blued finished, checkered diamond walnut grips, and chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It is all original with all the correct parts. Retains approximately 98% of the original factory high polish blue finish with a hint of light muzzle wear and light takedown line. Comes with one original lanyard loop Colt magazine. Correct Commercial barrel. Right side of slide has been professionally engraved "N.C. Longmier". The Colt factory letter states that this gun was shipped to the J.B. Shannon Hardware Co. in Philadelphia on May 2nd, 1919 in a shipment of three guns. A historical account of Nathaniel Chapman Longmier Jr. is included. Nathan registered for the draft in 1917 and purchased this pistol in 1919 after the war. Engraving was done by Shannon's in-house engraver. Nathan was employed by the DuPont Co. in Wilmington in the 20's and 30's, he registered again for the draft in 1942 and died in 1960. A beautiful high condition 1919 manufactured Commercial pistol with local DuPont and Philadelphia association. This gun has been completely disassembled and examined by noted 1911 expert Eric Gustafson who has confirmed that this gun is completely original.
