These rifles were converted after the Civil War using the Allen Conversion System. Block is dated 1870. Side plate is U.S. Springfield dated 1863. Walnut stocks have been cleaned and do not have any cartouche. All metal is a smooth brown gun metal grey with some freckling. Eagle is partially gone due to arsenal refinish. Barrel is 32". Has a military rear sight. Stocks has "R.S." stamped on it. Chambered for the .50-70 military cartridge. Strong but frosted bore. Perfect action. These rifles were interesting that they were used in the Civil War, later converted using the trapdoor system and reissued to other posts in the West. Original cleaning rod. Has sling swivels and barrel bands. These rifles probably killed more buffalo than all the other fancy rifles put together.
