First model, is probably one of the finest condition lowest serial numbered Winchester Model 1894 rifles in this condition in private hands. The factory letter states that this rifle was manufactured October 24th, 1894 as an octagon barrel rifle (26") in caliber .38-55 with a plain trigger. This is a standard First Model in all respects with the ten o'clock screw. Gun is 100% original and has never been touched. All screw heads are perfect. The stocks are as new near mint with all original finish. Not a single dent or impression anywhere. The barrel and tube retains approximately 97% original factory blue with some high edge wear on muzzle and tube. No freckling. The frame and bolt retain approximately the same amount of high polish factory blue. Still mirror bright with some minor toning showing through the blue finish. The loading gate still has approximately 80% of its original fire blue finish. Hammer retains all the brilliant colors on the back, generous amounts on sides, and has the first Model Knurling. Lever retains traces of colors on sides, basically patina on bottom, with old dried grease at intersection. It has standard Winchester sporting rear sight, and flip up front sight with brass globe. The action is like new. Strong clean bore with minor frosting. Nose cap retains flashes of blue but is basically turning a soft patina. There is no obvious carry wear on either the top or bottom of the frame. There is one little pinhead size speck of freckling on bottom left of frame. The extractor has traces of the fire blue. Probably as close to mint you will ever find one of these early Model 1894s made within the first two months of production.
