Manufactured by Hudson in Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 1850's or 60's, these heavy bench rifles were extremely popular with snipers from both sides during the Civil War. Features include single shot percussion, side lock, .54 caliber in the grooves, with a .32" heavy octagon barrel, and false muzzle. Barrel and side plate are both maker stamped. Strong but dirty bore. Lollipop long range rear sight base with no sight. Rear sight blank empty. Very good stocks with no cracks or major chips. Action works fine. Set trigger works fine. Metal is overall a blue-brown patina with iron mounts. Fine early example.
