Offered is a Smith & Wesson American Second Model revolver manufactured from 1872 to 1874. Fairly standard with an 8" barrel, six shot, single action, chambered for the .44 American cartridge. This revolver is finished in factory nickel, of which approximately 20% remains, while the balance has turned a dark grey patina with some freckling on cylinder and frame. The grips are a pair of original vintage ivory that fit fairly well, albeit they have shrunk a bit and show some of the usual age cracking. No traces of color on hammer or trigger guard. Strong factory stamps on rib. Indexes properly. Very good bore with some minor roughness. Latch number does not match. Cylinder number is barely visible. Front of the muzzle and front sight are completely rounded from holster wear. (Great look early cowboy gun).
