Polychrome cast iron. Pan-shaped toy with three feet. Spring-loaded acrobat on handle tosses a marble onto a round surface with fifteen holes numbered 5 through 75. Pressing the bell-shaped trigger on the handle releases the man. Original overall gold paint along with red, yellow, blue and green colored holes. Man has worn yellow paint on vest, flesh colored legs and traces of red on hat. Reverse has "PAT.APL.8 1884" in casting. Attributed to J.&E. Stevens Co., Cromwell, Connecticut. Advertised as "Japanese Tivoli" in 1886 (premium for selling subscriptions to Wide Awake magazine). Difficult to find in complete and undamaged condition. [U.S. Patent No. 296, 352 - April 8, 1884 by Alfred C. Rex, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
