This is a standard World War II 1911 semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Ithaca in 1943. Features a 5" barrel, parkerized finish, semi-automatic, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, and plastic grips. Top of the slide is stamped with the proof "P". Barrel was manufactured by High Standard, so stamped on left lug. It has a seven grooved serrated hammer; and grooved backstrap, slide stop, and safety. Grips were manufactured by Keyes Fiber Co. and stamped with a star inside. They are a type three first variation with no reinforcing ring. The Ordinance wheel is stamped on the right side back of frame and was stamped after the guns were finished. This was the final inspection and you can see some of the raw metal showing through, which indicates this gun has not been refinished. Right side of frame is stamped "United States Property" with serial number as well as "M 1911 A1 U.S. Army". Right front trigger bow has inspector mark of Inspector No. 4. Left side of frame has the "F.J.A." inspector mark for Frank J. Atwood (1942 - 1946). Left side of frame also has the proof "P". Trigger is the short checkered version. Mint bore and action. Aside from a couple of minute storage marks, the gun retains virtually 99% of its original factory parkerized war-time finish. One of the nicest Ithaca 1911s we have seen.CORRECTION: This weapon has been examined by Eric Gustafson who reaffirmed all of the above notes, but he did add that the ramp on this gun is park raised. While most early guns in this serial number are left in the white which does not indicate that there is nothing wrong with the gun and does appear to be 100% as described, but is anomaly worth deemed mentioning.
