Among the most desirable Colts in today's market are those earmarked for the United States Marine Corps. Factory letter lists serial number 185 as having been shipped to the United States Government Assistant Quarter Master United States Marine Corps, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 24th, 1905, in a shipment of 200 guns. Shipped with a 6" barrel, blued finish, checkered wood stocks, and furnished with a lanyard swivel. The inner workings of this gun are identical to the New Model Army and Navy swing out cylinder models. The butt is stamped "U.S.M.C" with number 185. 185 is stamped in the crane. There is a star stamped on bottom of barrel. There is a Colt pony in circle on left side of frame. Star stamped on back of cylinder. Strong clean bore. Perfect double and single action. Excellent original grips, albeit checkering is a bit worn. All metal finishes are smooth, sans any pitting, and are basically a soft blue-brown patina with flashes of original blue still evident. Screw heads are perfect. Cylinder release is stamped 185. Simply a wonderful and untouched rare pre-World War I Marine Corps Colt revolver.
