.45-70 caliber with a 32-5/8" barrel. Block is stamped "U.S. Model 1873", barrel is stamped with "VP" with an Eagle head. It has the Model 1879 second form rear sight. Two barrel bands stamped "U". Sideplate stamp "U.S. Springfield" with Eagle. Wood is stamped with a "P" in a circle. Visible cartouche on left side but not readable. Buttplate stamped "U.S.". All original early Trapdoor remains in excellent condition. The barrel retains 95% original factory blue starting to plum, as is the sideplate. The block has darkened out. Trigger guard has 50% blue starting to plum. Buttplate has flashes of blue, especially on top. Wood is excellent, proud to metal, with no cracks or chips. Has the proper metal ramrod. Comes with a Watervliet Arsenal stamped original sling. Strong clean bore and perfect action. Extremely clean early Trapdoor in fine condition.
