This rifle was manufactured in 1920. It is stamped "Mk I". It has the cut out on the left of receiver for the conversion and still retains all the small conversion parts. The barrel is stamped "SA 6-20 A". Standard features include 24" barrel, blued finish, walnut stocks, chambered for the .30-06 cartridge, smooth buttplate, dished rear sights, swept back bolt, all milled parts, proof "P" on wrist, wide finger grooves, and short groove sight hand guard. "J.E.S." cartouche on left side along with a rework stamp. Receiver retains 90% of the original blue finish, collar is patina. Barrel is a mix of blue and gun metal grey. Two bolt stock that is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Firing proof stamped on wrist. Strong bore. ME reading is 1. These were manufactured just after the first World War and were used in experimental trails in converting .30-06 to .30-sub caliber rounds for training purposes. This was to be the World War I "Super Weapon". Device would hold 40 rounds, firing a pistol size .30 caliber cartridge. 65,000 devices manufactured, 101,775 guns converted. Never used during the war and most devices were destroyed.
