This is one of the most handsome and unusual 86's in this auction. Factory letter states that this gun was shipped on August 2nd, 1895. Special order features include a 32" full octagon barrel, half magazine, a plan pistol grip stock, plain trigger, smooth metal shotgun buttplate, and is chambered for the .40-82 cartridge. This makes for a very unusual and seldom seen special order combination. All markings are sharp. The barrel retains approximately 90% blue, thinning at high edges and muzzle. Frame colors have mostly nickeled out, but there are still visible traces. Loading gate still retains approximately 40% of its original blue finish. Bolt has most of its original blue with some freckling. Wood is excellent, never refinished, proud to metal, with a 1/4" hairline at tang. The pistol grip has the ebony inset. Nice traces of color on nose cap. Very strong clean rifled bore. Perfect action. Extremely lovely and unusual deluxe 86.
