Contract musket was manufactured by L. Pomeroy in Pittsfield, Massachusetts from 1817 to 1836. At some point during its life, the musket was converted to percussion and it was shortened to a more manageable length, most likely done during the period for use in the Civil War. Barrel is shortened to 30-3/4". It is a .69 caliber smooth bore. Sideplate is dated 1824 with contract stamp. Stock has been shortened and is very good. Stock does have 2-1/2" crack on left side and 1" on right side, along with numerous battle scars. Ramrod is replacement. Metal is dark brown patina with heavy rust at breach. Buttplate is rusty, as is trigger. Poor bore. Original nipple. Relic Civil War survivor.
