Considered by many to be the first wooden lure, the Comstock Flying Helgramite is in the top ten of all lists of classic baits. Its concept and construction are second to none, and given that it was patented January 30, 1883, it was produced years before its time. This example, having clearly marked wings, is the medium size of 3 listed sizes, with a 2-3/8" wood body. This magnificent creation has perfect, red iris glass eyes, unbroken original hooks, both red and clear glass beads, through wire brass hardware. Standard finish with head and thorax finished in early green paint, while the abdomen portion is left unpainted and natural. Light wear to the green paint is the only detraction to this bait, and given that it is 132 years old, it could be considered a minor miracle that it exists today.
