The 1855 musket was a staple arm of the Union during the Civil War. It was the first U.S. martial weapon to fire the .58 caliber miniball. This particular example was manufactured in 1860 and is so dated on lock plate. It was manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Armory and it incorporates the Maynard priming system. Features a 40" barrel with three barrel bands, military style Springfield rear sight, iron patchbox on right side and walnut stocks. Strong cartouche on left side of stock. Wood is very good with no cracks, just usual dings. Metal is basically brown patina. Perfect action, original nippl, smooth bore in nice condition, but could use a good cleaning. Original ramrod still intact.
Correction: This is a musket, not a rifle-musket
