Belonged to George W. Roberts of the 42nd Regiment of Illinois' Volunteers. Killed in action on December 31st, 1862 while in command of the third brigade of Sheridan's division at Stone's River in Tennessee. Coat is identified on the inside collar "Col. Roberts February 11th, 1862". Coat is missing two Infantry officer buttons. Polished cotton lining and velvet collar with reinforced eyelets with accompanying tie-on shoulder straps.
