Civil War Officer's pork pie slouch hat. Belonged to Colonel Roberts formerly Commander of the 42nd Illinois but acting as brigade brigadier general was killed in action at Stone's River, Tennessee in December 1862. Polished silk lining. Manufactured for Gadfley, Porter & Co. Nashville, Tennessee. Embroidered infantry insignia on front of hat, General's star inset with embroidered Jeff Davis insignia on left side pinning up hat. Right side retains officer's plumes with infantry officer's cocade attaching it to hat with officer's netted hat cords underneath. Wide sweat band. Silk lining is partially detached but hat is in near mint condition.
