This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/24/2015
This revolver was originally a percussion .44 caliber that was converted circa 1871-72 to fire the .44 Colt cartridge. It is the rare 12 stop Richards conversion, the very first Richards produced by converting percussion revolvers using original percussion barrels. Gun has all matching numbers, except wedge not numbered. Cylinder number matches. None of the stops have broken through. It was originally a blued and case colored gun, far rarer than the nickel guns. The cylinder, barrel and backstrap are basically a smooth gun metal grey with some flashes of blue in the recesses. The right side of the frame has approximately 30% original case colors. Left side exhibits approximately 20% case colors and the hammer has strong case colors. Original brass trigger guard. Gun sports a pair of vintage eagle/shield carved one piece ivory grips that have shrunk a bit to the frame. Action is perfect. Strong bore. An extremely fine blued 12 stop Richards revolver produced just prior to the introduction of the Colt Single Action Army. A prize in any Old West revolver collection.
