This early linen flag measures 17" long and 12" tall. It has seven red stripes, six white stripes and 42 stars. American flew an 38 star flag in 1877 and 43 start flag in 1890. Washington was the 42nd state admitted into the union in 1889. It is unknown whether this flag was made for Washington state (the 42nd state) because there was never a 42 star flag, or if it is simply decorative and no attention was made to the stars. Flag is in very good condition with some staining and a 2" tear on left. It looks to have been hand cut.
Item Dimensions: 17" L. x 12" T.
