Grouping of 19th century American newspapers and ephemera with many containing Civil War related information. Grouping includes: 1.) Pamphlet “Gen. Jackson’s Proclamation. Extracts from the Proclamation of General Andrew Jackson, President of the United States, Against Secession and Nullification”, 8pp (uncut), 8.5” x 6”, circa 1830’s. This pamphlet concerned 1830’s thoughts on state vs. federal authority that would be influential in the start of the Civil war nearly 30 years later. 2.) Newspaper “The Philadelphia inquirer”, April 20, 1865 with headline “Funeral of Abraham Lincoln” with graphics of funeral car and coffin. 8pp. 3.) Newspaper “The Daily Express” Petersburg, Virginia Vol XVI, No.51, August 18, 1865, 4pp. First page entry regarding Robert E. Lee tendered Presidency of Washington College. 4.) Newspaper “Chattanooga Daily Gazette” Vol I, No.59, May 10, 1864, 4pp. Large military supplier advertisements. 5.) Newspaper “The Daily Standard” Raleigh, NC, Vol I, No.11, April 28, 1865, 2pp. First page entries regarding Andrew Johnson’s life. 6.) Start, 978 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, Long Island related to Starts business of selling pharmaceuticals/home remedies. Many of the newspapers exhibit staining fold breaks and edge folds and wrinkles and as such are sold with all faults.
