This is a percussion 1840 to 1850's era British made sporting musket, full stock, .70 smooth bore with a 40" part octagon-part round barrel. Has English proofs on left barrel flat. J. Baker stamp on sideplate. Has brass trigger guard, left side plate, wrist plaque and buttplate. Brass stock retaining thimble. Missing rod. Has a shell pattern carving at top of wrist. Slightly flared muzzle. Some chipping and cracks at forend. 2" loose piece of wood at face of sideplate. Metal is dark brown patina. No cracks in buttstock. No nipple. Hammer does not stay back. Bore needs cleaning. With a little attention to the stock and some mechanical tuning, this would be a good example of an English musket.
