Both the barrel and the lockplate are signed “J.Fleeger” of Allegany County in fancy script. Base on the design of the patchbox and the initials, we are attributing this rifle the J. Fleeger, who operated a gun shop in Allegany County, Pennsylvania, 1845 to 1870. Rifle features a full octagon barrel, set rear sight with brass front, full stock with striped finish. Barrel is pinned, three brass retaining thimbles, forend tip, trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, and patchbox. Equipped with double set triggers. The stock and barrel are a freckled grey patina. Stock is excellent with original finish. Fine engraving on left side plate and patchbox. Fine original mid-19th century Western Pennsylvania long rifle.
