45-3/4” barrel in .41 bore-flintlock. Offered Is a classic golden era full stock flintlock rifle. Features full octagon barrel with set rear sight and small blade front. The barrel is retained with four wedges and no plates. Has a brass forend tip with three brass retaining thimbles. The forend exhibits incised decoration from muzzle to rear barrel band. Has the beautifully striped oil finished hand-rubbed stock. The lock is manufactured by James Golcher of Philadelphia. It has a brass trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, and patchbox. Right side of stock has an incised decoration. Left side of stock is beautifully carved with small Penn. cheek piece. Has double set triggers. Lock and barrel are a smooth brown patina. Brass is a lovely dark mustard hue, almost brown in some areas. The rifle is not signed but we are attributing the work to the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania area. Wood is in excellent condition with no cracks with minor light grain separation at toe. Base of stock is missing a small brass decoration. While this rifle is unsigned, the distinctive stylized heart in the finial can be found in the signature of Henry Walter of Columbiana County, Ohio, who built fine flintlock rifles from 1800 to 1820. In addition to the finial, the patchbox style, and the design of the stock also matches his work. This is a fine, all original Penn. rifle in excellent condition.
