40" barrel, .52 bore-percussionThis rifle bares no makers signature nor is there any on the lock plate. It is a full stock and appears to be converted from flint lock to percussion sometime in the mid 19th century. Has a full octagon barrel with fixed rear sight and brass dove tail front sight. Has full striped finish stock, 3 brass thimbles, brass forend, brass trigger guard, wrap around brass butt plate and lightly decorated brass patch box, has double set triggers. The patch box is very similar to a George Fay of Bedford County 1835-1844, it can be seen in figure 148 in the book Kentucky Rifle Patch boxes Vol. 2 Chandler and Whisker. Barrel is a smooth mix of gray/brown patina as well as the lock, the stock has only 1 silver decoration on left side which is an elongated 8 point star and there is a small silver thumb decoration. The patch box features light engraving with some minor dents and a hole for the release. The wood is very good, the toe does have a 3/4" crack through both sides, but the wood contains all of it's original varnish and patina.
