35-3/4" barrel in .60 bore-percussion. This is the type of rifle that was carried in the Lewis & Clark expedition. This rifle started off life as a standard U.S. Model 1817 flintlock musket manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Armory. Like many military weapons, this rifle was converted into a sporting rifle buy means of cutting the stock and adding a barrel rib. Three thimbles retain the rod. Original military stock has had a cheek piece carved into the left side. Has a brass buttplate and trigger guard. Flintlock system has been converted to percussion. Original military brass patch box. Original nipple is broken and the hammer does not work. Stock is excellent, still have partially visible military cartouche on left stock. Excellent period conversion to a sporting rifle that is in fine condition with some minor attention needed to mechanism.
