Barrel length is 41-1/2", .70 bore. Offered is an early flintlock musket that resembles the model 1798 Whitney type two contract musket. Features the brass barrel bands forward and aft with an iron band in the center. There are no makers stamp visible on the lock, although it appears there was one but it is pitted and cleaned and is no longer readable. Barrel bands are stamped I.S. on the two brass bands and the top of the buttplate is likewise stamped. The barrel and center band are dark chocolate brown patina, the front brass band has integral sight. There is a bayonet lug and the tulip style rod as the decorative brass trigger guard is stamped I.S. The I.S. is stamped on all the brass parts and is the only readable markings. It is missing the front band retaining spring and is missing the sling swivels. The lock is pitted and has been cleaned. There is a small crack at base forward of trigger guard. A small crack behind right side barrel band, some chipping and a crack at wrist. There is chipping around the heel of the brass buttplate. Overall very solid early contract flintlock musket.
Correction: This is a 1770's French Naval Musket. It's a very rare revolutionary war weapon.
