These are referred to as contract pistols manufactured in London and sent to the American colonies after the war of 1812, usually procured by state militias. It is a flintlock and stamped Ketland & Company in center and stamped United States at rear. Has British crown proofs. Stock is American. Single thimble with vintage wooden rod with brass tip. Metal is a dark brown patina, stock is very good. A number of these type of weapons were ordered by the city of Philadelphia.
