42" barrel, .70bore at landsThis is an extremely fine and decorative heavy barrel target rifle dating to the early part of the 19th century. The lock is stamped DE. BROT. We can only guess to the country of origin but does have many French characteristics. The barrel is a heavy octagon and does have a proof in an oval on the top flat but is indiscernible. The barrel has a large fixed rear sight and a dove tail for a front sight which is missing. There is a 3” heavy brass forend cap with a cast lion face. Has 3 brass thimbles for the rod which is made of metal with a fancy brass finial. It is a flint lock that has stamped with the maker and has a very heavy brass butt plate with an iron extension that is retractable out to 5” which would rest on your shoulder. This gun has an extremely large brass trigger guard and has a set trigger that is basically as thin as a needle. Has a fish scale type of carving at the wrist and forend for grip. The under rail which extended 24” is actually a carved part of the stock and is channeled. Has extended cheek piece on both sides of stock. The rifle bore is in near mint condition, and stock is also in near mint condition with no cracks or chips. The barrel and lock are a smooth brown patina and this is an exquisitely built very early heavy barrel target rifle that remains in exceptional all original condition.
