Features a 3" barrel in .31 bore percussion. Manufactured in 1853. Built on the same frame size and within the same serial number range at the Colt Pocket Model revolver. Those guns manufactured without the provision for a loading lever activated system (i.e. solid lug) with the short barrels are referred to by collectors as the Wells Fargo models. These are amongst the most sought after variations of the Model 1849. The cylinder has a very strong cylinder scene featuring the stage hold-up but is numbered 160442, which does not match. The frame, barrel, trigger guard and wedge are numbered 57738, which the back strap in numbered 236041. Trigger guard retains traces of the nickel plated finish over mellow brass. The balance of the gun is a basic smooth brown patina with strong barrel and frame legends. Cylinder indexes. Bore is very strong with some light frosting. Walnut grips are very good with good percentage of original varnish. No cracks or chips. Screw heads are slightly burred on frame.
