Caliber is .58 bore. Barrel length is 40 inches. This is a New Jersey militia stamped rifle that was made by Colt manufacturing company under contract for the US government. Has three barrel bands, nose cap, original ram rod. Barrel bands and butt plate are US marked. Walnut stock. Has the NJ cartouche on left side. Left side of barrel stamped NJ at breach with P and dated 1862 on top flat. These guns were finished in the white with walnut stocks. This example remains in unfired condition. The sight retains all the original blue. There is some light toning to the metal, but it has never been cleaned or polished. Trigger guard has some brown freckling. Walnut stocks are near mint with a couple of very minor storage dings. A virtually unfired model 1863 Colt Springfield rifle issued to the New Jersey militia. This example is about as nice as one could expect to find with some added historical value due to the New Jersey markings. Even the nipple retains all of its original blue.
