Serial number is N557960, caliber is .357 magnum, barrel length is 4 - 1/8". This revolver was introduced May 1980. It is a six shot double action, built on the square butt end frame, three screw six shot fluted cylinder, 4" pinned barrel, matte top strap with a fixed front sight. Gun retains approximately 99% original blue with light drag line. Brilliant case colors on hammer and trigger with very good medallion checkered walnut grips, mint bore and action. These were originally ordered for the New York State Police but were never delivered and only 3,000 were ever manufactured and only in 1980. Therefore, it is one of the modern Smith & Wesson rarities and one of the finest big frame duty guns ever manufactured.
